My Path

I started writing code at eight, growing up in a family of engineers and IT professionals. At eleven, I built my first website - designing the graphics in CorelDRAW and writing the HTML by hand. It was mostly about me and the animals I loved.

My early exposure to the web also gave me a lesson in technology ethics: what we build has consequences for people.

My career started in hands-on engineering and gradually expanded into broader technical leadership.

I still work close enough to the code to solve problems with engineers - while taking responsibility for the decisions that shape delivery and business outcomes.

My independent advisory practice grew naturally from this experience.

Career

01

Engineering depth · Oracle, Java Compatibility Kit team

Three years working with Java platform specifications and compatibility at Oracle - deep exposure to JVM internals, APIs, and the foundations of the Java platform.

02

Banking client engagements · Synechron

Delivered technology work across engagements for UBS, FAB, and HSBC, including leading external development work and working directly with client teams.

Also represented Synechron at Joker 2018, presenting the company to the Java community and engaging experienced engineers as part of technical hiring and employer-brand outreach.

03

End-to-end technical leadership · Tinext, Technical Lead

Led architecture and technical delivery across GCC banking, insurance, and government engagements. Coordinated engineering teams of up to 45 on larger deliveries. On a separate multi-party integration programme, aligned seven free-zone integration teams, external development contractors, and the partner infrastructure team hosting the platform.

Defined a formal code-quality acceptance standard for vendor-delivered software, which was adopted across Tinext's regional branches.

04

Zero-to-one · SCM-Navigator, Founder & Architect

Architected and built a logistics platform from scratch, hired and led the founding team, and handled accelerator applications, conference participation, and investor pitching.

Ultimately made the decision to shut the product down after market research showed that the business economics could not support it.

05

Enterprise technology leadership · Principal Engineer / AVP, digital-first regional bank

Owned architecture and delivery across Open Finance and payments, including stabilizing a delayed Pakistan Payments programme critical to market launch.

Beyond delivery, reshaped engineering hiring and onboarding, and led cross-team reviews of database design and production failures, turning recurring issues into engineering recommendations adopted across teams.

06

Teaching & mentoring · Java programming school

Taught Java across a three-level programme to 100+ learners, from complete beginners through junior-level material.

What this means in practice

01

I can go line-by-line with your engineers on an implementation, write code together with them and teach them clean code.

02

I treat architecture as trade-offs to defend, not as a checklist to sign off on. I can teach your engineers how to make those trade-offs and how to defend them to stakeholders.

03

I know how decisions actually get made inside both large regulated organizations and smaller agile companies - who signs off, what gets cut under pressure.

04

I've delivered where a wrong call has real financial and regulatory consequences - banking, payments, insurance. I've also delivered where facing a client is everyday reality and wrong decisions have immediate business impact - startups and consultancies.

05

I've sat in every seat at the table - vendor-placed engineer, vendor building the team, client governing vendors.

06

I've taken systems and teams from zero, or from crisis, to stable enough that they no longer needed me.

07

I've mentored in-person 50+ engineers on junior, middle and leadership levels across startups, consultancies, and enterprise engineering teams.

08

I taught Java to 100+ learners across three levels at commercial programming school, from first principles to junior-level material.

A Few Examples

- UAE Open Finance: architected and roleld-out new digital channel, than handed it over to the permanent management team. One of few UAE banks to meet the central bank's Open Finance certification requirements that year.

- Pakistan payments: I joined a delivery that was four sprints behindschedule and helped bring it back on track within two months, than handed it over to the permanent management team.

- HVAC automation startup: I carried out a technical assessment and found that the proposed solution was solving a much larger problem than the MVP actually required. The technical direction was reset around what the business needed to launch.

- Saudi insurer: I led a 45-person delivery programme from pre-sales into architecture and delivery readiness.

Independent - no vendor relationships to protect, no bench of subcontractors. Hands-on enough to go deep myself. Built to work alongside the leadership a client already has, not to replace it.
